HISTORY
Our non-profit group was formed a little over 40 years ago to provide a meeting place in Silverton for 12-Step recovery groups and other related supportive and social activities.
The old wooden building at Third and High Streets, formerly a school in 1900, had been deeded to the SCC in 1976 by a group called the Royal Neighbors.
By 2019 it became apparent that substantial repairs and maintenance were needed and that we couldn’t raise the money needed to keep the building our meeting hall. It was a very difficult decision to sell it, and heart-wrenching for some.
There are some long-term Silverton residents and others from surrounding communities who had come to the old hall for decades. For them it was a source of great solace and where they had first come to a way of life of wholeness, purpose and health. But the decision had to be made.
We have the proceeds from the sale and are diligently seeking a new location and a way to build a new meeting place, so this valuable resource does not disappear from Silverton.
HOW WE ARE GOVERNED
The Silverton Coffee Club (SCC) is governed by a Board of Directors comprised on members of people attending 12-step meetings at the SCC. The Board is responsible for managing the operations and maintenance of our facility.
The Board meets monthly. There are currently 8 Board members. Our guiding philosophy is to ensure that the management of the building does not interfere with the sobriety of any member.
